Relax, you are on vacation! Family portrait sessions at the beach are laid back and we want you to be as comfortable as possible and enjoy your portrait session with us!
Please keep your cell phone on and nearby on your session date. Our photographer will check in with you the afternoon of your session to confirm session time, location any weather concerns.
Always wear clothes you are comfortablein for your beach portrait. However, we do have some basic tips that you may like to follow.
--Photographs look best when everyone is dressed in similar tones. Solid colors are always best. Khaki and white as well as blue tones are classic beach portrait colors but are not required. Seasonal colors can work too! Avoid patterns of all kinds as well as logos.
--Avoid baggy clothing, ruffles, large collars. On windy days we will have issues keeping the clothing flat or out of your face.
--Keep jewelry simple or choose to wear none (preferred). It can often be distracting in the end and cause unwanted reflections in your portraits.
--Avoid trendy clothes. Think of classic styles as we do not want to date your portrait and want it to stand the test of time.
--Be aware of tan lines prior to your session. If you have lines it is best to wear clothing that will cover for your photo session. To blend or remove tan lines will cost extra in retouching fees afterward in your photographs.
--Ladies, clothing with sleeves is always best. Bare shoulders can make women look large. Strings, ties, and straps generally do not look good. Strings can also blow in the wind and become distracting. Uncovered shoulders will also draw attention away from the face.
--Wear your hair and make-up as you normally would. Look natural and relaxed like the environment you are being photographed within. Do not overdo it with heavy makeup. Do not get a haircut that you are not used to prior to your session.
--Expect WIND. It is often an issue at the beach on Hilton Head. Please be prepared and bring hair ties etc. if necessary. Also, remember the wind will affect your clothing so keep this in mind when selecting your outfits.
--Use hairspray or try to wear it pulled up for your session. Use hairspray even if you normally do not. Even on men and boys.
--Do not overdress…it can be hot…but please do not wear clothing that is too short or skimpy as we do pose sitting on the dunes and short shorts or skirts can be uncomfortable to pose in.
--Be aware of thin material that may show colors underneath. Wear nude or white underwear and invest in baby bloomers or diaper covers for small children.
--For children, choose simple clothing. Avoid large collars, ties, and large patterns. Use diaper covers for the little ones as retouching diapers is an additional service and not always possible.
--Lotion can cause sand to stick to your body, please avoid prior to your beach portrait session.
--Bare feet are preferred for beach portraits.
--Leave the phones, cameras, and sunglasses in your room. No need to carry that phone as you will be busy having fun with our photographers. We also do not want items to get lost or have you storing in your pockets as they will show in your final photographs.
--We do not bring props to our Hilton Head family beach photo sessions, if you like you are welcome to bring any props you feel necessary.
--Drink water prior to your portrait session to stay hydrated.
